MANAGEMENT & MAINTENANCE
Our management is here to help, with team members on-site day to day and ready to assist. The office is open Tuesday thorough Saturday for in-person assistance, and our team can also be reached by phone, email, or through the resident portal for added convenience. We strive to respond to all inquiries promptly and ensure residents feel supported and well taken care of.
At The Citizen at Shirlington Village, we have an on-site maintenance team ready to assist Monday through Saturday, and on call for emergencies like fire or flooding! Submit a maintenance request through the online portal or get in contact with the office if you have questions about your request.
Our service technicians are able to provide assistance while you are enjoying life in the DMV! You do not need to be present for your maintenance request to be addressed, but if you would prefer to be there, you are more than welcome.
We ask that all maintenance requests be submitted through your resident portal. If you need assistance completing this, our team is happy to help.
If you find yourself locked out during business hours, stop by our office, call our leasing team, or submit a help request online! If you are locked out after hours, you can call our emergency maintenance line or contact a locksmith if necessary.

At The Citizen at Shirlington Village, your home is designed to make everyday living effortless. Enjoy the convenience of an in-unit washer and dryer and a dishwasher to help streamline your routine, giving you more time to focus on what matters most. Stay comfortable year-round with central heating and air conditioning, and cook with ease in your fully equipped kitchen including a refrigerator/freezer, microwave, stove/oven, and dishwasher.
Our apartments come unfurnished, but we would be happy to assist you and connect you with a vendor who can provides furnishings at an additional cost.
ADMINISTRATIVE & LEASING
We aim to approve all applications within 24-48 hours. However, approval time can vary depending on how quickly required steps are completed. Each application requires identity and income verification, and completing these promptly will help ensure faster processing and approval. If you have any questions about the status of your application, please call our leasing team.
At The Citizen, we want paying rent to be made easy. All payments are completed online via checking account, credit/debit cards or MoneyGram. Please note that for credit/debit transactions, there is a non-removable 3% transaction fee.
All residents are required to have renters' insurance. Please contact our leasing team to discuss the renter's insurance policy in more depth.
We are equipped for Comcast/Xfinity.
At The Citizen, we understand that life can change. Early lease termination may be possible with 60 days' advance notice and may include fees or other obligations as outlined in your lease. Please contact our leasing office to discuss your specific circumstances and review your options.
At The Citizen, our team will set up your utilities, but you will be responsible for setting up your electricity service with Dominion Energy, by calling (866) 366-4357or using the online service at https://www.dominionenergy.com/.
Utilities will be the responsibility of the resident and are not included in the rent.

When reviewing an application to rent at The Citizen at Shirlington Village, we conduct a criminal background check, verify rental history, analyze credit history, and income-to-rent ratio. If you have questions about our application process, please contact our leasing team to speak with one of our friendly team members.
Applicants must have verifiable income equal or greater to 3 times (gross) the market rent. Guarantors must have original, verifiable income equal to or greater than 5 times (gross) the market rent.
Your application is evaluated utilizing a rental scoring-based report method that weighs the indicators of future financial lease performance. The rental score results from a mathematical analysis of information found in your credit report, application data, and previous rental history. Such information may include your bill-paying history, the number and type of accounts you have, collection actions, outstanding debt, and the number of inquiries in your consumer report.
Our property uses software to verify income. If no records are found using this software, you may be asked to provide another verification method, such as banking information or pay stubs, to validate income.
Our system generates a risk vs credit score. Bankruptcies, judgments, and balance(s) owed to other management may cause an applicant to be denied.

Our team suggests making a previously arranged appointment to prevent any wait time and to make sure all your questions about our apartments get addressed. However, we do also accept walk-ins.
We currently do not offer self-guided tours; however, you can contact our team to schedule a tour of your future home at The Citizen at Shirlington Village.
Yes, we’re happy to accommodate quick or shortened tours for those on a tight schedule. Let us know your availability, and we’ll tailor the tour to highlight key features of the community while making the most of your time.
For the safety and security of our property, team, and residents, photo ID is required for anyone taking a tour.
Your apartment will be prepped and ready for you to move in. We make sure your home is professionally cleaned, painted, and functioning properly so that when you move in, you're ready to relax at home.
The noise level is generally moderate. Most residents enjoy a comfortable living environment with typical city sounds from nearby Shirlington Village, while many units remain quiet and peaceful inside.
We want our residents to make their space just like home. We ask that upon move-out that the unit be returned to exactly as it was upon move-in to prevent any fees. If you have questions about decoration ideas, call the leasing office for details!
The Citizen at Shirlington Village does not have additional monthly fees for using amenities. However, you must pay any additional charges for parking/pet rent and utilities depending on resident's circumstances.
Subletting and short-term rentals such as Airbnb, VRBO, etc., are strictly prohibited.
To make sure The Citizen at Shirlington Village is as peaceful for all of our residents as possible, our community's quiet hours are from 10 pm to 8 am. We do rent out our Community Room for a fee. Please inquire by contacting the office.
Move-in payment will vary. On or before your move-in date, you will be responsible for your security deposit, prorated rent, monthly parking fee and pet rent if applicable, and one-time pet fee if applicable. If you have any questions about your move in amount, please contact our leasing office!
